Hey! Thanks, seed lady!
I cut down a suspected tobacco plant in the yard that was about 3.5′ tall. Like Smokey but giant. We’re trying to dry it out but there are so may eggs and bugs on it. Little reddish bugs. We can’t even wash them all off. So we may scrap that project.
Smokey could very well be making a flower-he’s got lots of new leaves coming in in his center. That’s exciting. He’s got the red bug thing too but they don’t appear to be eating him right now.

I think you’re right about the other plant, too. My pal Jeannne showed me some similar ones in her garden. She said they didn’t bloom the first year but they’ll bloom next year. Personally, I would have preferred more lettuce plants but the flowers on these are supposed to be really nice so I’ll give them some time.

If you Google “gummy roadkill” you will find that it comes from a company called Oriental Trading. Oriental Trading sells lots and lots of stuff including, within the past few years, extremely cheap lampwork beads. Lots and lots of different kinds that look pretty decent in the pictures. So that’s my dirty little secret–I wanted that candy so bad I bought it from the enemy.I do not encourage you to do likewise, though, if you did, I wouldn’t blame you because, damn, that’s cool candy. I guess I feel a little better now that that is off my chest.

Tour “tobacco” plant is probably an ornamnetal species, of which there are many hybrids–bred for color and fragrance in the garden. Likey Nicotiana sylvestrus or N. elata, if it has a highly scented white flower–gets about 5 to 6′ tall. When a plant like this starts grow upwards to form a central flower stalk, usually it discards the lower leaves, forming new, shorter leaves along the central stalk as it elongates. This may be what’s happening to Smokey!

The other mystery plant with the shiny ’sharp’ (toothed?) edges looks like a Campanula or “Bellflower” species. It too will elongate when it’s time to bloom (usually spring). Maybe ‘Cup-and-Saucer’? They self seed easily so you should have more. Very ornamental blue bell-shaped flowers along a tall upright stem. Not edible.

WHERE did you FIND these? (I LOVE them!) Wow, they almost look like your beads!

I think you should make a mask for yourself that looks like your mask beads, and wear it that day while you’re in the store… Well, just a thought!

Road kill candy. Love it.
But … are you going to be making beads that look like candy? Hershey’s kisses, M&Ms, all silaceous and non-tooth-rotting low calorie.

Well, I said UNIQUE drink (I’m sure the bars probably have some nice boring typical type thing that people want to buy… I’m talking about something that inspires double takes or spit takes when you even describe it, ha ha!)

Really, you should have a party, with a contest, and the winner is the one who mixes the most exotic thing with the Kombucha (and DRINKS it!)

Well, I just figure as winter crawls along, if everybody is bored and fed up with the season, there’s something novel to do that will certainly create some sort of amusement (just don’t allow anyone more than 5 oz of it at your bash, you don’t want to have a multi-body pileup in your restroom, ha ha!)
